Project program

Swiss National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) on Interactive Multimodal Information Management (IM2)

Partners: ITS/EPFL, LASA/EPFL, IDIAP, FKI/UniBE, BIWI/ETHZ

Keywords

Computer vision, visual attention, omnidirectional image processing, saliency map, conspicuity map, dynamic visual attention, non-euclidean geometry, spherical wavelets, spherical gaussian pyramid, parabolic catadioptric sensors, omnidirectional camera, dome camera, video processing, surveillance, teleconference

Purpose of the project

The main goal of this project is to optimize and improve the available omnidirectional  (static and dynamic) visual attention models as well as to study its benefits in the context of smart-room scenario.

The concrete objectives of this project are thus the following:

1.      Improvements of the dynamic visual attention model in omnidirectional real scenes;

2.      Integration of audio in the visual attention paradigm;

3.      Integration in the smart-room scenario.

Given the appeal of potential applications (surveillance, robot navigation, smart rooms etc.), we thus expect both scientific and technological impact in terms of publications and software implementations enabling this applications
